How to determine if an event is cancelled or field is closed

Weather creates challenges every season, and our staff of volunteers put in tremendous hours to prep, inspect, and repair fields to keep our players on the field as much as possible. Invariably, there will be weather-related cancellations, postponements, and rescheduled events. We please ask for your patience in the event of weather-related issues -- please know, as a 100% volunteer-run organization, we do everything we can to promptly address cancellations or delays.

Your team's manager will be primary point of contact for weather-related issues. Your manager will work closely with league officials to assess field conditions and closely follow field closures. For transparency, our process is as follows:

1) League Operations will assess field conditions, in coordination with Fairfax County, field captains, and coaches who are often checking fields in advance of play or practice.

2) If fields are deemed unsafe or unfit for play, Operations will send group text messages to Level Coordinators, who will in turn relay these messages to impacted managers.

3) Managers will let their teams know.
We do not send broad-based messages to the entire league, as some fields respond favorably to weather, or have coaches able to work on the field and prep it adequately -- we do not want to create confusion with mass messaging.

Aside from your team's manager, there are four ways to monitor your team's field status, where field closures will be posted:

1) FCKLL.org Field Status Widget -- On both the FCKLL.org homepage, as well as lower on this webpage, is a current view of field conditions, along with the time of any updates. The league will aim to keep these statuses current in the event of weather with daily status updates a couple of hours before the earliest scheduled action (e.g., for weekday practices status will be updated around 3PM) .

2) Team Central -- Within the Team Central tab, you can locate the league’s master calendar. Impacted events will have a notification of "cancelled" or "postponed" next to them based on the conditions. (Please note, field status will typically be updated before the calendar).

3) GameChanger Team Manager -- Most coaches in the league will make use of FCKLL's instance of GameChanger Team Manager. Your schedule will be synced with the league's scheduling system and cancellations or postponements will show up here.

4) FCPA Field Status -- Some of FCKLL's fields fall within the Fairfax County Park Authority which determines field status. Please note that not all fields fall under this jurisdiction. Check latest FCPA official field status.
